So did a remote start/keyless (viper160xv) in a Lexus SC 430 (2002). Had to use the 556uw to do the transponder bypass. Instead of putting the whole key in, I just took the key apart and used the guts to do the bypass. For some reason, this lady is wanting her key back to working order (even though she admits she has 2 extras at home!) and when she went to the dealer, they quote her $350!!! To make matters worse, since she is upset over losing one of her keys she talks to the GM who now makes it my responsibility to get her a replacement key since I did not explain that "in optimum conditions the 160xv will have a 1/4 mile range" well enough. Turns out the lady is trying to remote start her car from her office in a hospital to the parking garage across the street!! But, I digress..
Anybody here know where I can get the hookup on this so I can get this lady outta my hair for less than $200? I sold her the 160xv for 199 installed and cannot accept paying more for a key than she did for the unit....

Sorry, just to clarify, she wants the key you disassembled for the 556U put back together and then put back in the 556U? If that's the case I would favor your method over that decision. Simply for the fact that it helps lower the chance of the entire car being stolen on a break in if the thieves manage to locate the module.
Otherwise this seems like a tough customer and a GM who doesn't understand your position at all. I would recommend you try using a bypass that doesn't cost a key, for example, an Idatalink ADS-TB-TL or something similar from another manufacturer. If you don't have access to one, maybe another local shop does and I'm sure you can swing one for way less than $200.00.
Wish you luck though, this situation is the kind that drive me insane as well. Let us know how it turns out.

Agree with dmielken. If you can't locate idtalkink product, the Fortin (ifar.ca) KEY-OVERRIDE-SL2 should do the job as well.
On older Toyotas, you can program a blank Ford key, a blank Toyota key, or a DEI 555F by yourself......I haven't tried that out on Lexus yet though.

Try to explain to her that no matter where she went to have a remote starter installed on that particular car, she would have had to:

1)Give up a key

2)Buy a keyless bypass module

Have your GM refund the cost of the 556U and have her order the keyless bypass.  Offer to install it for her when she receives it.

There are 3 manufactures that make a product for her.

1) BypassKit.com = PKT2 - The product is harder to install(you have to access the ECM behind the glove box), and unless you are a dealer the customer will pay a arm and a leg for it.

2) idatalink.ca = ADS-TB-TL - Easier to install, all the wires are at the steering wheel, though you have to make about 7-8 connections,The customer can buy this directly from the manufacture for $50 plus shipping which is about $20. Link: http://www.idatalink.com/store/index.php?l=product_detail&p=2

3) Fortin = Keyoverride-sl2 - Easy to install, I can't open the directions right now but I believe its about 4 wires, The customer can get this for 37.99 plus free shipping from here: http://www.buy.com/prod/crime-stopper-key-override-sl2-2-way-data-link-with-sl-technology/q/loc/111/204222333.html or from a distributer for about $45 plus shipping here: http://www.audiowarehouse.peachhost.com/ct_PRkey-override-sl.htm.  You can read about the product here: https://ifar.ca/en/products/all_products/key-override-sl2/?year=2002&make=143&model=1675

the website audiowarehouse.com also has the idatalink module for $44 plus shipping: http://www.audiowarehouse.peachhost.com/ct_PRads-tbslko.htm

I would definitely go with option 2 or 3, both are great products for a Lexus. I'm sure when you refund the price of the 556U and let her order the new keyless piece everything will pretty much even out. I looked on circuit city's web site and they charge $50.99 for the 556U, she will only be at the most spending like $10-$15 more than she already has. NOW that s much better than $350!!

Nah, what it is is that when she came in to shop, we let her know about the XK-05 and that she would not give up the key. After finding out that our '05 was fried and was our last one, I talked to my services mgr and he suggested we make her this offer: since she was gonna have to fork over 100 bucks for the XK, why don't we use the key guts, credit her 100 and cost out a 556 so that in the end her remote start works, she gets 150 in free money, and everyone is happy. My mistake was saying she could use the 100 to replace the key innards we used in the 556u. She assumed I meant that that was all it would cost. So after all this, she actually let us know that she has 2 other keys and the valet key as well!! Pretty much just trying to take us for a ride and I'm trying to keep this trip short.
Flobee4, have you used any of these module on these cars? If so, I probably will go that route. Can you offer any tips??

I have personally used the ADS-TB-TL product from Idatalink on a Lexus RX300. Exact same wiring guide for your particular vehicle, and I found it very simple, have to interrupt several wires at the immobilizer connector. Check out the install guide found HERE
And select the PDF for ADS-TBSL-TL. It's the Type 1 wiring setup.

if it were me, i would basically tell her that you can leave it like it is, or take everything out and refund her the money. Because if you were to have to purchase her a new key at $240 when the r/s was only $199, you will end up losing money in the end. Or you can be a really ass and tell her that you can give her the key back, but that her r/s is useless without it. Basically what I can see is a customer that is all about getting something for free and making some money off of it. And although it would be a waste of time on your part, it would be much more cost effective to bascally refund the entire product to the customer rather than losing money on the sale. and after all that, just think how great it would be when she returns to have you reinstall it because you have the best price around... lol (yes, that has happened to bme before... it was quite humorous.. lol)

Should this ever be an issue again (been there a couple times myself). East Coast Locksmith (740-546-4700) sells nice quality replacements at about 40% of the $tealer. You'll need the customer to provide the master though to program the replacement.
