Subwoofer connection?

I have a KVT 717DVD and I hooked everything else up and it works fine. Now I go to hook up the sub (brand new Type R w/ ppi 2600 amp) and I get a thumping sound coming from the sub alone with a odd pitched noise??

it never did it on my cd player but now it does?? I am thinking something is touching ground but can see anything.

Also, what is really wierd is I went to slide the unit back into the dash and I saw the grounds were unhooked (due to bad crimp). but the unit is STILL ON!?>!?! never seen this before.

Any Ideas?? Please help no beats is going to kill me.. lol

Firstly i would re-check all connections. obviously,no offense, but in my expirience a good 90% of problems are installation related. basically we are human and make simple mistakes. so i would try sub in another setup that is known to work. then try to go through the troubleshooting process. identify, isolate, eliminate. so basically take all your steps over again. and be extremely thorough. if you can gauruntee that every thing is perfect bring a second set of eyes in to check as well it never hurs. i know i am being very long winded however you probably spent a decent amout of money on the unit and hopefully will be extremely careful not to skip over things. lastly the grounding issue, i am sure its very possible the unit still truns on with out the grounds connected for many reasons. obvious one would be if it was grounding through the chassis of the stand alone unit. or if any where else a ground is touching. and of course grounding through the antenna is entirely possible. so again sorry for not giving a short rresponse but as opposed to getting short open ended answers i tryied to cover everything possible. lastly if all else fails kenwood units have a 2 year warranty so abuse it.

I know exaclty what your talking about and I did JUST that, I took it all back apart and checked all the connections and your right, the ground issue IS the Antenna. I pulled it to see if that was it, and it was. Also, I had a fellow installer I work with look at it and he is stumped as well.. I ran new remote wire and I am going to see if a new set of rca's is in order too but these are brand new so I dont know.. I grounded the case for the brain(not a stand alone unit) an still pulses, I have asked a master tech at the shop across from me and he thinks somewhere along the way of the rca's they are touching ground or are too close to something with power(common with cheap rca's.) I am going to check that out tonight, but the only other thing I can think of is the brain has a defect in it.. but EVERYTHING else works flawlessly..

Thank you for the input and I really hope I can figure this out.. and I will keep a log of it so if anyone else has a problem like this, they have something to turn to..

at least your on the right track to eliminating the prob. the rca problem is vey likely best of luck if anything else pops up please inform i would like to know the results for my knowledge.

well I found out what it was.. I guess the kenwood has an internal amplifier and I had my settings too High on the amp itself. now it works perfectly..
