I purchased a Viper smart start from Best Buy the other day. Told the guy I intend on installing it on a manual transmission car. The guy was like cool, no biggy. Got it installed and I cant activate it. So I go back to best buy, and they say that they are suppose to install it, and that I should have been told this. I was like ok, well its done already so turn it on. They said sure, oh wait you have a manual... we cant touch that.. liability and all... So now I have a $300 paper wait unless I can get it activated... Being a former installer I hate to ask for help on this being that I didn't purchase the product from anybody on here. But this is my last resort...
Thank you for your time

That's bogus. They sell all their units with installation packaged in the price. So offer to pull the unit back out and have them re-install it. There is no reason why they can't install that unit in a manual transmission vehicle.

Yeah they got you with the labor when you bought it. It won't be on your reciept depending on how they rang it up but they got you for it.
The problem is though, I don't believe that brain in those units are manual safe. So I can understand them not wanting to do, however it can be done. I would either take it to a local shop or return it and get the viper 5101 with a smart start module. The 5101 is manual safe so there is a procedure to do to make sure you don't start it out while its in gear.

In Canada here $300 is the price of the Smart Start module itself uninstalled

i am not familiar with a 3000 series but here our 4000 series is essentially a 5101 with the VSM100 included, but no RF remote or antenna (available separately) so theorectically it should work fine on a manual tranny vehicle....

Hey everybody thank you for your input. Yes they do get you for install when you buy it. But it was an issue of not being manual safe and Best Buys liability. That being said the head installer at Best Buy was going to go to thew manager and see what he could do to take it back or at lease get me free key fob additions sense they sold me something they shouldn't have. Yet in the end another local dealer hooked me up after they checked my install and ensured that I wired it so that you couldn't start it in gear. So the system is running and I love it!!!!!
Thanks everybody...
