well, first off i posted about a month ago on here asking about problems with my alarm/remote start system. it started out as the viper 690xv then i added remote start to it (not really a full 791 xv system). the alarm wasn't working and blah blah blah. well i took my car to the shop and luckily it was covered under warranty, for another 5 days! the shop fixed everything but didn't tell me what was wrong with it or anything. i noticed that i do have a new transmitter though. it has a little button on the back of it with the letter P on it. i was wondering what this does, if anything?

the previous one i had was a blue one, just like the one i have right now. that's what i think the problem was though, the remote was transfering the signal.

the "P" button on the back of the remote is to enter programming mode. if you hold the button down for 3-5 seconds it will beep and enter programming mode. in programming mode you can adjust such setting as "lcd backlight on or off", and "audible or silent (vibrate) mode" if you get a page on it.

if you read your owners manual it will tell you all of this, and it will tell you how to set each option.

by the way, when i said "enter programming mode" in my post above this, i mean progamming mode just for the remote, NOT for actual alarm. you use the valet switch in your vehicle to enter progamming mode for the actual alarm (as im sure you know)

yeah, so basically, on my old remote i had to hold the lock, unlock, aux, and panic button down at the same time till it beeped, that entered program mode for the remote. for this one all i have to is hold the button down?
i read all about reprogramming the alarm and stuff with the valet switch. i got it to chirp and stuff but that's about as far as i got. i don't really have a need to reprogram my alarm.
thanx for the help.

yes, all you need to do is hold down the "P" button to enter programming mode.

whole nother problem all togethere now.
i don't know if this needs a new thread but for the sake of conserving space i'll keep it in this one.
after i got the alarm fixed (or the remote, i still don't know what they did) the remote start is acting a little funky. it will start. if the car is armed (doors locked) then the car will start and after about 5 seconds trigger the alarm. i can unlock the car, start it, then arm it and it is fine. when i took my car up to the shop that installed it they said i have to do this every single time i want to remote start the car, unlock the car, remote start it, then lock it.
this seems totally pointless to me.
before the whole ordeal took place with my alarm the remote start did the same thing as mentioned above. i took it back to the shop and they were able to do something to the car that i don't know. but i could remote start it WITHOUT having to unlock it first.
now is the time when i am seriously kicking myself in my booty for not learning how to install my own alarm.
if any of you guys can give me ANY insight on what to do i would greatly appreciate it. i would like to be able to take the car back up there (4th time in 3 days) and say "do this" and have it fixed. if not then i may attempt doin it myself. you guys have always been more than helpful in the past and hopefully you can help me here.
