Look, the reason for all of this is the few idiots in their so-called "boom cars" who don't have enough brains to lower their volume when they enter residential neighborhoods.  The few make it bad for everyone.  And I'll happily admit that if one of those idiots sits outside MY house shaking my windows with their subs for more than a few seconds, I will definately call the police with their lisence number.  I don't want to listen to your thump.  Noise ordinances exist for a reason.  I will also call if a neighbor decides to run his leaf blower after the law says they can't at 10PM or before 8AM.  This world is too noisy as it is, don't make me listen to your noise any more than I already have to.  And sorry Rob, day sleepers (of which I have been one) are the minority and are not protected by noise laws: except that is for the car noise laws here in California which are in effect 24 hours a day.  Good ear plugs do work.

In the 20/20 peice, one boomer admitted he blew out an eardrum. One boomer suffered a collapsed lung from blasting a 1,000 watt boom car - http://www.noiseoff.org/boomcars.shtml
It is also a safety issue, boomers create so much noise, it is nearly impossible for the boomer and other drivers to hear an emergency vehicle such as an ambulance, a fire truck or police car, that is why they passed a new law in Florida against booming.
its funny there calling a thousand watt a boom car my speakers in the door total are a thousand watts. He probally got a collapsed lung for bieng hit by an ambulance.

Ok, an eardrum but a lung??? That is rediculous. Unless the vehicle was a serious sound off vehicle then I would say next to impossible. The loudest I have hit was 153db. That didn't blow my eardrums, sure as hell didn't collapse a lung. Hell, I have a true 1kW amp in my work vehicle. No one hears me unless I want them too, even then it isn't much as my box is garbage.
Noiseoff.org has so many lies and propaganda in it that it is rediculous. Boycott Pioneer because of a slogan? I don't think so. I love this page. This ad page is funny as well, Tsunami, Earthquake, and Pepsi???. Hell they even want to take on MERA.
If I go on any further then I run the risk of this post being deleted.
PS. How are the noise ordinances in Canada?

I had to respond to the other forum. Just wait until they find out people can drive and watch dvds or that people are putting computers in their cars.

this is what i sent to the above bullcrap forum
and i quote
you should be ASHAMED of yourselves! how dare you associate the tragedy of the recent tsunami in the pacific or the ongoing terrorist activity to the car audio croud. I'm am not a person(or "thug") as you describe it that drive's down the street to irritate people but at the same time i understand each person's right to free expression. I do not condone blasting rap music down every small suburb street but i must say you are no better than war mongers and profiteers trying to feed off peoples emotions. "Tsunami" brand wiring has been around LONG before the recent disaster.....i will continue....Pioneer's add is just that....an add to exaggerate the power of their products. no one is assuming they are a nuclear threat, and if YOU do....shame on you for being short a chromosome and i feel sorry for your ignorance. grow up.
what do you guys think.....i think i did good

I don't really know where this started, but I can say I am pretty much in agreement with the noiseoff group, even if I disagree with their methods. Propaganda like this is a bad thing, and can be dangerous. I do not have a "boom car". While it will play PLENTY loud, I did it for me, not for eveybody around me. My home stereo is the same thing.
The car audio industry should be reigned in, if not by themselves, by someone... I think it is a good example of American youth not being held responsible for their own actions. Honestly, I was appalled by the Pioneer video from that page. Really, now, should a "responsible company" be allowed to pander to, even PROMOTE irresponsibility like this? Probably not. I can appreciate the fact that all of those guys work hard for their stereo gear, I work JUST as hard for mine... but all I wanted to do was reach into my monitor a slap the shhh out of that kid who put on the ear protection, then reached for the volume knob. **** him! Little rat-bastard! It all boils down to responsibility, - needing to take some for yourself, and respect - show some for the people around you. Grow up. If somebody asks me to turn down my stereo, I will - obviously it is too loud AT THAT MOMENT - I can turn it back up to my desired level LATER... My stereo will still be in my car, when I am not near that particual person. This is the way I was raised, with respect for the people around me, and I don't give a GOOD g****** how much you spend on your stereo, or your exhaust system, you have NO right to force me to listen to it or to hear it, the same as I have no right to make you listen to mine.
Why can't the stereo be turned down while you are at the light? Hmmm? Show some decency. Free expression? OK, but if you are "free expressing" over my own personal enjoyment, (which, BTW, I was enjoying by myself - in my own car - MY space, not yours, and I didn't invite you INTO my space), you are no longer expressing aloud, but forcing onto, (a right which is NOT guaranteed you by the Constitution) and being not cool... for this you SHOULD be cited or at least warned... And if it happens like this, that you do get a citation, be an adult, and accept the responsibility - it is yours after all.
A hotly debated subject, and will probably remain so, there have been (probably more than) a couple of discussions/arguments, with more varying viewpoints, regarding this very topic on the12volt. Please see here and here.
Anyway, it's 3:40 in the morning, and I am really starting to rant, I think, and ranting is not good.
It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

I quote this from www.bcae.com...
"Please 'Boom' Responsibly
As most of you have noticed, the noise ordinances have become much tougher lately. Most of this is due to idiots, yes IDIOTS, who drive through residential areas with their windows down while their system is playing at full power. To make things worse, the music they listen to has all sorts of foul language that's not suitable for small children, (who may be playing outside). There are even a few people, who are even beyond idiot status, that play their systems at full power through residential areas after 10:00 PM (when many people go to bed). I don't believe that this type of behavior is good for the industry. If the fines get too stiff, people will stop buying large systems. If this happens, more people will get out of car audio (who wants a mediocre system). People get interested in things because they're exciting. A deck and four 6.5" speakers are not going to interest many of the younger car audio enthusiasts. If car audio enthusiasts keep annoying more and more people, the fines will keep getting tougher. All of this will only reduce interest in the equipment that fuels the industry. If you want to listen to your system at full volume, get out on the highway where there's little chance of bothering anyone. When you get to a red light, turn it down. If the only thing attractive about you is your 'system', you have some work to do. Bottom line... Think about what you're doing. Think about other people. It's not the end of the world if you have to turn the volume down for a little while."
As said in this post, just be responsible, or considerate. If you know you want to listen to your stereo loud, take the highway route rather than the back road route through the neighborhood. Turn it down for the 30 seconds at the traffic light. Laws are getting worse, news coverage is now going against us. The more people act stupid and irresponsible, the worse its going to get. Before long, car subwoofers may become illegal, or taxed so high nobody can afford them. So, for that 1 minute, take one for the team, turn it down.
