When are subwoofers considered blow, because one of my friends has a 12" Alpine 4 ohm sub, and when tested it reads 4.6 ohms. Is this sub blown or does it still have some life left in it?

That sounds normal to me. A sub woofer is "blown" when it quits working, or if it starts making strange rubbing sounds while it's working. Or, while not technically "blown" per se, when you jab a screwdriver through the cone eight or nine times. The last works best with Audiobahn or Sony sub woofers.

yah thats seems normal, wheny ou blow a sub you'll know it. and its hard as hell to blow those alpines so you should be fine.

if reading it with a meter, it will read 0 ohms if blown.

Not always. Could be open which will read "OL" or infinite, could read normal resistance but the VC could be broken and rubbing mechanically.

if the woofer is blown you'll hear a more of a humming sound. it definitely shouldn't be playing the deep notes too well either. there will be a lot of distortion and weird noises to go along with it.

That's my opinion. Take it, leave it, or correct me.

a blown sub will not read an ohm load... hooking a blown sub up to a meter will not show any resistance.
