I am installing a SHO-ME model 03-0771 wig wag kit on my 2003 Chevrolet Express van. I use it for roadside assistance stops and like the extra warning it will provide me.

For the life of me, I can not get it to wig wag the lights. I have hooked it up both ways the diagram shows. FYI, it is a one headlight per side. The DRL is not with the headlights, but with the amber turn signals.

With my test light hooked to the positive side of the battery, the ground and the high beam light light the test light up.

Any suggestions on what I may be doing wrong?

Anyone know how to make a wig-wag kit? I'd rather learn how to make them from scratch then to buy them. I have some extra relays sitting around anyway.

The easiest way to make a wig-wag is out of a flasher from the auto parts store. I think it was number 512 or something like that. They can handle the amps ofyour headlights. All you do is wire them in parallel to your headlights then have a switched hot and it works great. This is the basic idea of most police cars.

The kit cost 40 bones....came with a cool switch and ALL the hardware. Took 15 min. to install. hard to beat

wig-wag.....thats funny, I don't care who ya are!

The simplest version would be just the flasher, thermal flasher is a Wagner #537, costs about $8- no longer made and hard to find. The electronic version is a Tridon #EL-13A, costa ~$26.

JC Whitney has kits in the $25 range- probably mechanical based

The fancy multi patterned units are electronic driven, and start around $40

Make your own- need a 555 timer driving a set of relays. If you want the fancy patterns, you will need to add in a ring counter and some AND gates. Or use a PLU
