Lets start a new trend

Although I agree wtih you here, audio is simply a matter of taste, so you are right  you probably won't see any body spewing numbers about how flat their RTA readings are, but if you'd like you can meter my car.

Bass is fun, it's like fast cars, people are drawn to it. I still like big bass, but I MUCH prefer a well balanced, good sounding system.

I also would like to know how you can "throw together an all bass system capable of hitting 150db for~$500"  If you can do it let me know, I know plenty of people who have "thrown together" an all bass sysem for no less than $2000, and still aren't capable of breaking 150 db on a term-lab meter!

That's not a new trend, it's what I've done for years.  And as has been stated above, there is NO competition-level "thrown together" system possible for $500.  It's the kids who lie about their untested or non-standard test SPL numbers and who boast about their 2KW fake peak ratings in their $500 systems that clog up this and other boards with their BS.  Notice that none of the pros ever do that, unless they are asked (or unless the thread is about that.)

A few thoughts.

I agree with Poorman, a lot of the top posters are not here as much. Ham Fist, Kgerry, Sedate, Alpine Guy, Paradigm and Auex. Don't see as much of these guys anymore. And where is Steven Kephart ?It does get boring answering the same questions, but that's kinda why we're here.

I've always equated SPL owners with having a slight " look at me " insecurity complex. But hey, I'll put it in if you'll pay for it.
