My friends BMW has an all factory system. He bought the car used and in the trunk I found a power wire RCA's and a Ground, meaning the previous owner had an amp hooked up. The problem is some of the speakers cut in and out if bumps are hit. I am guessing that this issue most likely be in back of the factory head unit . How do I remove the factory head unit on this car to look behind it? Also any other suggestions would be more than helpfull as to what this issue could be caused from.

on bmw's you will need european keys. sound like when they tapped into the wires for the LOC that theres a loose connection. i guess MECP certified doesnt mean anything?

Actually no. This is a difficult radio to remove if you don't know what you are doing. Remove the wood trim around the top and sides of the radio, it prys off. Pull the volume knob off the radio. Behind it you will find a T-10 torx screw. Loosen it all the way and the radio will slide out. If the wiring looks good, the factory amp is behind the right rear wheel well. That is most likely where they tapped into the wires. I'm NOT MECP certified, go figure!

MECP means nothing. I am not so much into the audio, remote starts/alarms are my specialty. Now if you need to know whats going on there I can help. Thanks for the info Tcss. I will look into it. Oh yea I do not see anything about european keys need to remove the radio

Definately check the amp first, there could be a bare wire shorting out there.
