Can anyone with a DEI paging alarm chime in with the range that they normally get.  I've heard people get a few thousand feet off the Compustar in close to ideal conditions, but haven't heard anything about DEI's range.  Maybe DEI's 1/4 mile range is a much more practical estimate compared to Compustar's?  Also, I like that DEI features code hopping.  What does Compustar do to prevent this?

This could very well be the deciding factor for me because they both cost about the same and support pretty much the same features.

They didnt say what the model number would be but they did say that the standard responder wasnt going away and they were going to run both lines for the next year with the SST model being approx 50 dollars more. It is gonna be on the market by the end of July at the latest baring any unforseen problems. The range on the DEI piece being a quarter mile under ideal conditions is very acurate as long as the ground is under the 10 ohm tollerance. The DEI pieces are quite sensitive to poor grounds which is one of the only problems I have with them.

Compustar will be coming out with a new system this year as well along with newly designed 2 way remote controls and one way remote controls. I've seen the prototypes remote controls and they're pretty nice looking. Range may also increase as well with the new systems but is not confirmed.

The only feature listed above that the 791 doesnt have is the temp sensor, everything else it has. As well it has tach and volltage sensing. If I was looking at a DEI product I would wait until the SST version comes out as it should hit the market very soon. It will have a mile on range on it and is suposed to have a more stable reange than the compustar

Did they design and build this BEFORE or AFTER they bought Astro?

I heard about this technology being developed last year. They only bought astro a couple weeks ago. The plans for now are to run astro as a completly seperate company for now, different tech departments different R&D teams etc. I dont know how long it will last but thats the plan for the immediate future.

they have been working on their SST units for about 2 years now....supposed to be released last fall but didnt want to with little gremlins still in the units... they are being field tested as we speak and should be ready to hit the dealer price lists and actually shipping by end of Q2......

dont be surprised by them buying their competition... they have already done this years ago with Avital, Clifford, Design Tech......

People where talking about the range of the 2 r/s's earlier. I have a compustar and my buddy has a viper. We both work in the same place and park at about the same place. He has to be able to see his car before he can start it. As for me i can be inside the building and it works. And when you use a cell in here you get crappy reciption. But my remote works great.
