Hey. This is a little off the car audio topic, but I need some help. I live in a town on the U.S. side on the Canadian border, and had a couple of guys tell me that they couln't get across the border with some home audio equipment because their packing slip showed that they were only supposed to have 2 of these Digital Research DR-2810's and the warehouse accidendtily loaded 4, so their boss told them to sell them to the first person they came to and get the load delivered. So I talked them down  to $200 for the pair. The MSRP on the box, and in their product line catalogue that they showed me is $1689 ea. On the way home I started thinking way to good to be true. I can't find anything on them on the 'net. Now I'm a little worried. Anybody ever heard of them? Did I just get scammed? I have their license plate # and can and will find them if so.

Thanks for any help/replies.

Why don't you just listen to them and decide if they're worth $200. Really, if they make any kind of decent sound, they're probably worth that... So either way I wouldn't say you got "ripped off"

Wow, the story is exactly the same, just that they got me at a gas station right by the border. Yeah, like you said, it's only 200 bucks so what the hell. I kind of figured they were hustlin something, that's why I wrote down the license # before I drove away. Now if I can just get the wife to stop telling people about the "good deal" lol.

Are they pretty loud anyways, even if the sound quality isn't so great?

I found This:

http://www.scamshield.com/

I live right outside NYC and I've been approach numerous times. I thought it was because I live just outside New York.  I didn't know it was nation wide until I saw your post and did some digging. Its called the "white van scam".  Some people seem to be happy, but others not.  I always walk away from people like that, if it sounds to good to be true, it usually is.
