Thanks in advance.

I installed an older DEI remote start in my wifes 2004 Escape. Used a 555S bypass module. Won't crank without it, cranks for a second or 2 but doesn't start with it. I programmed an extra key (I have an uncut one) an stuck it in the steering column and it worked fine after positioning it a couple of times. Questions: will there be a conflict wit a second PATS key in the ignition; is there a better module to use. I think the neg pulse to the 555S does not last long enough, but there seems to be no adjustment.

It sounds like the alarm is programmed for tach sense and has no tach wire connected. This was a problem I ran into a while back .. I believe DEI alarms used to be defalt voltage sense, and switched to defalt tach sense more recently .. DOH! took me about 30 minutes to figure out what the problem was when I worked on an 05 Escape 6 months ago or so.
Does the remote start work if you have a programmed key inserted in the ignition? (NOT turned to the ON position or anything, just insert the key into ignition so the PATS system can read the key). If remote start works with the key there, then the alarm is programmed right, but would mean you are having problems with the transponder bypass.
I have done remote start on both the 2001 and 2005 Escapes. I ordered and was planning to use the 555-S with both, but neither vehicle had 2 keys available for programming, so I had to use a universal key transponder bypass. I took the single coded key and put it under the dash, constantly bypassed, and had standard keys cut for the vehicle. This completely eliminates the PATS system which some people may or may not care about. Both customers I did work for didnt care, just wanted their vehicles to have an alarm, and remote start capabilities.
I hope this information helps. Good luck.

You mention a negative pulse to the 555S, that shouldn't be. It needs to be hooked to the blue status wire so that it sees a ground the entire time it is remote started, not just a pulse before. Also, you may find that on an Escape you need to hook the keysense wire up to drop the 555S out when the key is inserted in the ignition. They cannot see two keys at the same time....

Thanks for the help.

Mike, I was concerned about it sensing 2 keys at once. This morning it would not start until I removed the extra one.

The remote unit is an older Autocommand that I bought a couple of years ago but never put in. I think they call it a Series 20. It was the cheapest one any way. It has only a single wire labeled "Alarm Disarm" that has a "quick negative pulse just before starting the vehicle" I think that it is to quick.

I guess I will replace it with a newer one. Any recommendations on one?
