the gem module on an 04 focus doesnt "go to sleep". The only ones that do are the bigger ford trucks. If you wire the diodes with the bands facing the alarm, the alarm would never see the door triggers as ground would not be allowed to flow through the diode, the stripes facing the alarm would only apply to vehicles with + door triggers.

your best bet would be to pull the door triggers and check each one to see wich one is shorted to ground as that sounds like your problem if they are showing ground with doors open or closed. as for the way you have the diodes right now, it is correct, stripe facing the gem module.

Swerve........I think howie was talking about, in addition to the 4 diodes goin to the alarm.....cutting each door trigger wire and inserting a diode inline, which is a common fix to the ford falsing problem.

Yes I was! It's on the directed web-site and in UK all Fords with the GEM or UK equivalent poste '02 shut down and sweep the door contacts etc.  approx.  every 65mins. I may have got the banding wrong way round (I always have to think it out when I'm doing it!)

This is easier than using a relay or 10kr to live; you're letting the signal from the contacts get to the vehicle module but not feeding back to the alarm so you need 9 diodes in a foor door and trunk car.

i know what howie was talking about, and he is correct for uk fords. but for the current vehicle, which is a non uk focus, the above mentioned is not neccesary. I was simply trying to clarify the subject and get to the real problem not confound the situation more by adding other variables to take into account.

and yes howie you had it right the first time with the bands to the alarm when doing a gem module wake up.

Swerve I know I'm a pedantic mustard BUT I've worked on one US spec Focus and apart from driver knee trim,  flashers/sidelights and front grill the electrics appeared the same, hell the looms come from the US, (auto) gearboxes from Mazda, engines from Wales or London and body panels from Belgium or Germany. Look at the Saturn Astra, it's a Vauxhall Astra here!

That GEM box sits above throttle pedal here, behind glovebox in US and has either 2 or 4 plugs depending on spec. Correct so far? In 2001 we had a major electical system change e.g. wiring at haz switch went CAN etc. We have had a newer body shape since 2005 (aka Volvo V50, Mazda 3 and Land Rover Freelander)  with our Focus ST having Volvo T5 engine and running gear (Yes it goes like doodie off a shovel) you should get the new shape soon. I do remember that the US model had the same pin connections to that box ie door contacts, lock unlock and deadlock, even the same colours. In UK it's made by Siemens (They make body control boxes for every manufacturer in Europe, shame the pin configurations are all different). Regards

NB This problem with sleep surges spiking the door contacts, I have found that not every vehicle suffers but it's not worth taking the chance!
