Hello, I'm new here. I found this website and it looks very promising. I am installing a ford OEM stereo (i think it is from a 2004 Ford F350) into a Nissan Maxima 1996. The receiver was missing the reverse harness so I bought one off of ebay that fit very well. I got exited and soldered the wires appropriately to the best of my knowledge, but the receiver will not power on. One issue I had was that the reverse harness has wires for the "amp tuner: or power "antenna" blue wires. I dont think fords have them. So I sealed off the wires and did not use them.
One option is that the receiver might be dead, but I was told it was working fine before I got it. So I hope this isn't the case.
Another option my brother suggested is that it somehow needs to be reset. DO you guys know of any reset buttons to ford radios?
Another option is that the wiring is all wrong. I can show you guys the details of this if need be.
Lastly, could the soldering have affected the connections? I used electrical solder, and thought they were well done.
Can you guys suggest how I should troubleshoot this mess please?
any help would be greatly appreciated.

Where did you get your info for the wire coloring..... ? for the nissan primarily

You have tackled a job that most would not. Not from a difficulty standpoint ....but from a "why" standpoint

Well That was not so difficult primarily because the previous stereo was a nice aftermarket one (installed at circuit city) that had a harness with all the wires labeled. When that died I put a simple receiver in there and it worked fine, but this receiver just wont turn on.   I know that this is a weird thing to do. I did it for the learning experience and also because the ford stereo is a 6 cd changer that was free while the temporary aftermarket one only had a tape deck and was pretty pathetic all around.
How can I make sure that there is power going reaching the receiver? or if it is some other wiring issue?

Only difference is that mine also has an illumination wire in slot H (where the dimmer wire is on the diagram)and the dimmer wire is on slot G (where diagram says do not use).
again, the Nissan already had a harness that had each cable color coded and labeled with printed words.

ok about the edit button. Why not do this? Are the 2 systems really that incompatible? the Ford radio is much nicer than the crappy one I had in there. that is the main reason.
I am gonna look up the wiring for the nissan just to double check it.

Hahaha...I feel dumb.   The reverse harness plug wasn't in all the way. I had to push it in really hard to get it in. Now it works like a charm and I have a 6 cd changer in my maxima. :)   The reason I did it is so I would have a much nicer system in my car. thanks for reading this anyway.

.....much nicer? OEM is OEM and thats all I have to say about that. Unless the OEM system is a new one in the Ford Mustang, Shaker 500. Not bad for stock set up, but still factory crap. I would much rather set up a system for around $1,200.00 with after market then spend $3,000.00 on an OEM "Premium Audio System".
Even a fairly inexpensive after market radio with new speakers is better as long as they are matched for power usage/wattage.
The wire I'm test'n isn't doin' what it's supposed to be doin'... I am so glad I printed that tech sheet, with the wrong info.
Do it right the first time... or I might have to fix it for ya
