The stock antennas in these vehicles are factory amplified and when hooking up an aftermarket deck or fm modulator, you have to use an adapter like this one.  The blue wire supplies the turn on for the factory antenna amplifier.  If it is hooked up without this wire then the usual result is no AM, and barely any FM reception.  I don't know if this has much to do with your problem but I thought I'd throw it in just for everyone's info.

I know that's how it works and thats what I would normally need, but when the previous owner had an after market head unit put in, they cut off the factory antenna connector, and crimped on a motorola(aftermarket) connector.  So now that adapter wouldn't fit.
