Trying to get the trunk release to work with phoenix pd175. Unit has a wire that says trunk relase positive output. looks like i need a relay, but instructions are NOT good!!

The trunk release switch inside the console has 2 wires on it, BROWN / blue is 12v

gray reads 6v

How do I make it work??????????

Thanks, a rookie who is learning!

if your alarm has positive output, then just hook that wire to light GREEN/ black(+) at trunk release switch.

usually, what i do is just use a relay in parallel with the switch, so that when your alarm triggers that wire, the relay closes the circuit the same way that pushing the button would have. i hate trying to figure out whether the switch is on the pos or neg side of the motor and whether there is a relay or not inline after that, so i usually just add a relay in parallel with anything that has a switch like this that i don't feel like figuring out, i save a lot of problem solving time, and relays are cheap enough that i don't really mind.

measure both wires at the swith at rest, and while you pressing the button. logic probe is the best as it will show you both + and -.

one of the wires will change state when the button is pressed. <--- this is the money wire.

just recreate what happens on that wire while you are pressing the button.
