hey guys,

Im putting in a viper 791xv alarm.  Im having trouble locating the hood pin trigger wire. the diagram states it on the fuse box harness.  Well, I found two (blue/blk) wires, one thicker than the other.

I pulled the harness out of the fusebox, tested each harness for gnd. (used a digimultimeter-Red Probe to constant 12v, and blk Probe to either wire) I had my brother push on the pin to see if the current breaks to 0 but I still get a constant 12V on both wires.  NOthing changes when the Pin is open and closed. Am i doing something wrong?

Can someone here who has installed an alarm help me find the hood pin trigger wire? THanks!

btw I own a 95 eclipse GST

if you pull the harness out of the fuse box, how could youve test it?

There is 4 plugs that go to the fuse box.  Two out of the four plugs have the blue/blk wire.  I tested each wire by unpluging the harness from the fuse box.

The I took my Fluke MT, red probe to constant 12V, then I probed the harness that had the wire with the blk probe.

It showed 12V since the hood was open, I belive that is what should be shown.  I had my brother push down on the hood pin to simulate the hood being closed.  I should of see no continutiy since the pin is now open.  But in my case, regardless if the pin is open/close, I still see a constant 12V on BOTH wires.

The difference in these two wires are the gauge size.  Im stuck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ive been working on my car for the past  11 Hours straight.  Took a break to use the bathroom and eat, but nothing more.  Im beat, tired and I have class tomorrow. Maybe my head needs some rest.

Thanks for you reply, it gives me hope.

exactly, you need to leave the wire in and maybe push your probe into the connector

Javelin,

So rather than pulling out the harness from the fuse box, just probe it while the harness is connected to the fusebox... Id tried that, but I will try it once more.

Profuse,

You do have a point there.  That would be my last resort though.  I hope a good nights rest will help.  Thanks for all your replies... This is a great Site!
