Hello....

Let me preface by saying serviced MB, Porsche, Ferrari (and a few others) for 20 years.  I have been out of the business for 15 years, but still have some technical expertise (not alarm systems).  After deciding what unit I want I will install it myself, because I crimp/solder/heat shrink/etc all my connections.  Furthermore whenever a wire is spliced into a pre-existing factory harness I splice into the harness, then install a connector... etc, etc.  Obviously such an installation would cost me a small fortune if I hired someone to do it.  I am looking at several remote starter and alarm systems, but have been frustrated at every turn by Clarion and DEI regarding finding installation manuals.

The car into which I want to install a remote starter is a 1995 Honda Passport (manufacture Sept '94.  This is NOT a 95.5 model).  This car has a factory alarm system which is totally suitable for my needs.  I am **NOT** interested in a higher level of security.

What I want:  1.  remote start.   2. possibly a 2-way system so I can confirm car is running.

So far I have looked at:

DesignTech's 20022 (limited to 15 minute run time which is not suitable here in CT in winter), but they have good tech support.

Valet 561t - has some features I want, but their customer support is awful.

Clarion SR5000 - has more features I want, but customer support is awful.

(I am aware of the range issuess with the 561t and the 20022.  I am aware of the no warrantee issues of self-installations).

Is there someone/some place where I can find the installation manuals for the SR5000 and the 561t?  I have tried the Clarion and DEI websites, but have only been able to find the owners manuals.

Also.... any suggestions regarding other brands of "Add-on" remote starters that use the pre-existing factory remotes?

Thank you.

Well, if you can find the model number of the alarm/remote start unit for the dei versions and you plug them into the search button you will probably find all the install manuals you would need. I know there have been alot of them posted lately. If you can't then post the models here and I will post links to them.

Thank you for your help.  The link you posted was exactly what I was looking for.

After seeing your message I clicked on the "Search" feature at the upper right of "the12volt's install bay" and also "the12volt's install bay/ Car Security" I once again tried searching for "561T" and "561t" (without the quotes), but only saw 3 threads none of which included links to installation manuals.  I must be doing something wrong while searching.  Perhaps I am searching in the wrong place?

Anyway.....  can you help teach me how to search for the Clarion/Ungo SR5000 installation instructions?

Thank you

Sorry I couldn't even find the install manuals for the clarion. I would believe it would be similar to the dei piece. The owner's manual looks DEI and I think I read somewhere that DEI was making clarion's alarm now.

Which DEI model is the "similar" version to the Clarion SR5000?

Again, I am totally confused how to search for a specific installation instruction manual on THIS site.

Trying http://www.directechs.com/ I have no access...  password required.

Would you be so kind as to provide a link to the DEI version you think is similar to the Clarion/Ungo SR5000?

Thank you

I have a manual for 561t, but need to unpack a few boxes to find, recently changed employers and have yet to put everything away.  Will try to get it up later today.
If it don't fit, Force it.
If it breaks, You needed a new one anyway!

I would suggest the DEI system, whether it be Viper, Valet, etc. Provided you purchase the hardware from a registered dealer, their warrenty service is impecible. Lifetime warrenty on the brains provided it is installed professionally. I've only used DEI systems since I started in this business and never had a problem out of any of them. Viper 300ESP, Viper C60, and Viper 550ESP. The 300ESP has been on three different cars and still preforming like new to this very day.
