Hello All, I have an 05 Dakota that I'm trying to install an Alpine CDA 9835 into. I have a wire harness for the radio; however the stock Dodge connector doesn't have a wire going to where the ignition wire is on the harness (red). So my question is where am I supposed to connect that wire to so that it will turn on. Also, this deck says that it requires a direct connection to the battery, is this really necessary or can it be tied into the +12V battery behind the dash? Thanks a lot for the help guys, I really appreciate it!

Yes, it's necessary to follow the manufacturer's instructions.  Run a 10 gauge wire directly to the battery.  Find a place where you can snake it through a grommet in the firewall, and use a fuse as directed in the instructions.  The switched red wire can go to any 12 volt switched source under the dash.  Use a multimeter set to DC volts, and probe connections using the key to turn on/off the ignition.  The switched source will go off when the key is off.
Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.
