Hey Zach.... the information that I was referring to was past posts from other members that either loved the units or hated them because of installation troubles ( their own of course ) and the trouble of trying to program the units ( again maybe attributed to the installer, not the unit itself ). I have installed Ultra Starts before and they seems fairly good. The remote control flip face is cool as it hides three other buttons as well. Tons of features on it, but no temperature monitor ( optional ).

If you want to check out the Autopage, type in the model number in the search tab at the top of this page and look in " ALL OF 12 volt "

I thought I would put my 2 cents in about the Autopage.  I have installed some pretty easy remote starters, So I can see how people would think that the Autopage units were "Not Installer Friendly", because they are a more complex unit.  Nevertheless, I found that the programming was very straight forward.  However, the programming switch is most likely the issue that people had.  It does take some getting used to.  I just used a DMM Test lead (that was not very sharp) to press the button more accurately.  It was not designed for big hands and fingers, but I hardly consider it a reason to not consider the unit.

Well put in your last post Jeff. It sounds like those people who complained about the Autopage were either inexperienced or ....well, I guess that says it.

I find that any unit can be "Not installer friendly" when it is brand new to me, or I have not prepped the unit before hand or read the manual once over to get an overview of the features and programming options.  The Autopage was actually a very easy install my first time because I had it all prepped, and I new what all the wires were for, and the programming was not an issue in the least. and I am going to shut up now because I am rambling on and we are not even on the right topic anymore since Deckard has a manual transmission.

Thanks for all those who have commented. Even off-topic comments are interesting, mostly.

I'll learn Celcius if that's what it takes!
Of course the next problem would be availability of the unit (do you have them jeff?) and finding an installer willing to do the international install.
Are there actually legal issues as well, for example with the FCC? Or is that an exagerated concern?

FCC is a real concern and the manufacturer is responsible for complying with the FCC rulings. The fact that the international versions are not legally sold in the USA is the main deterrant that we have about bringing these units in for sale. Without the potential US sales we really don't want to commit to a large inventory of the International models.

deckard,
Here's one that has temperature indicator and remote start for manuals. I have seen these for sale on e-bay, presumably available from a more reliable source some where. Here is the link to the documentation page the unit that best fits your needs (I think) is the PL-7100TW
http://www.gitsecurity.com/eng/home.htm
For what its worth I've bought several things off of e-bay and haven't been burnt yet, so may be an option if you can't find it else where,
Zach
