Does anyone know the difference between the Viper 5902, and the Viper 7901? The only one that is on the Viper website is the 5902, BUT I saw a Viper brochure that called it the 7901. Features and everything else seem identical.
Can anyone explain what the differences are?

i've been waiting for the "7901" for awhile now and decided to just go for the 5901 because i needed an alarm NOW!  supposedly the new color remote will work with the existing 5901 alarm system, so in the future i'll just upgrade to that remote.

but alas, viper's website no longer calls it the 7901 but rather the 5902.  ain't that a beotch?

argh, i can't edit yet.  anyway, i think now it was a rumor that the new remote can be used with the existing 5901.  it seems that the new 5902 and it's remote are far more advanced.  i was hoping the rumor was true that the new remote would integrate with my 5901 but i don't see how.  i think it's more than just the remote that carries all the advanced features and that the 5902 brain itself must be paired with the new remote.

when anyone has any hands-on experience, PLEASE, update this thread.  i'm now wishing i did wait the extra ONE MONTH to get the 5902 system instead.  of course, i did get my 5901 for a little over $200 where as i'm sure the new 5902 will cost at least twice as much.

okay, another added comment, it looks like on their website they are even playing games with the model numbers.  it seems that my 5901 system is now being referred to as the 5702v.  sheesh.  i feel dirty and used.

When all is said and done the 5902v should only be around 100.00 more than the 5901, but as I understand it, it's a completely different remote (not just added color). I really need the 5902v now, but I guess I'll just have to wait for it to come out and then install it in the snow.... :(
The 5902v did will a innovations award. As soon as it's available I will order it and possibly post some videos on what the new remote is like, seeing how nothing on the viper site seems to work (demo wise).

i just went through one of the various amazon.com sellers.  that way if the sell went bad, amazon would take care of it.  i installed it myself and now have no warrantee on the alarm as i'm not an authorized installer.  keep that in mind.

It would be nice to 'officially' have a warranty, but Vipers quality is very good, and I have never had to return one for going bad. I am really not worried about losing their warranty. I bench test before I install them and if they check out OK I install and never have had any issues with their products. Besides, you can always add a warranty by buying square deal warranties. A 3 year warranty costs only 29.00 ;)

i'm just sad they didn't release this 5902 earlier.  i would have paid the difference between it and my 5901...as many others would as well.  NOW i have to just keep reminding myself it was worth the $100-$200 savings.............;)

okay, fyi, i emailed viper and asked if the new 5902 OLED remote would control the 5901 and they say YES.  BUUUUUT.... they won't sell the remote individually for about a year.  ...so they say...

they never did get back to me when i asked if the remote would lose any functionality by not using it with the supposedly intended 5902.
