Recently I installed a pair of Rockford Fosgate 10'' Subs in my trunk with a Punch 250 Amp using a Line Out Convertor and splicing into the gray clip plugged into the Monsoon Amp.  I had read on a VW site somewhere someone recommended using the CD Changer wire harness in the trunk and taking the power wire from that and using it as a Remote.  Well, I did and it was successful for about two weeks until my cd player started ejecting the cd's giving me a CD Error 1 for about 50 different cd's wiht no scratches and perfectly clean.  I have a 2003 VW Passat.

I just had the head unit replaced at VW, and I don't want to take another chance doing that again, so I was wondering if anyone knows how to create a remote for your amp other than from the head unit and cd changer wire harness?

Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Andrew

You could always tap a 12V negative wire off of your battery and put it on a switch on your dash, just flip the subs on when you need them. Personally, though, I'd get a decent head unit.

use the one that controls your antenna wire. or get the 12volt remote wire that goes into your deck.

Huh? Your cd player problem is probably unrelated to this, unless you tapped the wrong wire. You could wire the remote turn on lead directly to the acc wire at the ignition harness.

Thanks for your help.  I think I will run a separate wire from the battery and put a switch up front, that seems to be the safest option for a remote if the factory HU doesn't have one.  It has to be the negative terminal on the battery though right?

NO, I would use the ignition wire from behind the radio. It should be a yellow wire with a red stripe. This way you won't have to worry about forgetting to flip a switch everytime you turn your car.

Also, what you could do is buy an Add-A-Circuit from the local auto store.  I just came across these the other day, basically goes right into your fuse panel and has a wire lead which you can then run to the head unit.  Just use an empty spot on the panel that has 12v when key is turned on.  Also would want to make sure about the size of the fuse in the specific spot (refer to manual).  Just another thought.

Sorry, the wire lead from the Add-A-Circuit you would obviously want to run it back to the amp, not the head unit.  (my bad)
